Bling Bling

Don't you love when you walk in to a store for one item and find yourself completely drawn to another? Today I headed to TJ Maxx for some baskets and frames for the wedding and I fell in love with these beauties.

New lamps!
I held back on some of their other steals but I could not leave the store without two of these guys. I love how  they're mirrored but not over the top... plus, I've been dying for some lamps for the family room. I'm not a huge fan of overhead lights (unless it's a chandelier) so we had been using a floor lamp that I was less than thrilled with. Beauty and function? Yes, please!

Loving City Living

Reason #1,124,342,342 why I love living in the city: underground power lines i.e. not losing power when the weather is hovering around 100 degrees. This weekend was a hot one and the storm that rolled through Friday left a trail of destruction including a loss of power out in the suburbs... luckily, we don't live in the suburbs but we did head out there to go furniture shopping on Saturday... in the dark. In all fairness, we didn't know that the furniture store didn't have power but when we got there and all the lights were out, it soon became obvious :) Low and behold we still managed to find a couch and two chairs that will be perfect for the family room.... color me excited. And although it will take 8 to 10 weeks to show you what they really look like, here's a sneak peak of the fabrics I chose.

The linen will be the couch and the blue will be the two chairs.

Ryan also started to build a work bench for the basement and try to organize the disaster zone that had become his work area.

And I worked on a few wedding crafts, including taking my sewing machine for a spin :)

Oh weekends, how I love thee.

Weekend Whirlwind

I'm backkkkk! I may have been a horrible blogger the past few weeks but with the wedding less than TWO months away, we're trying to check things off our to do list. I spent the weekend working on wedding crafts while Ryan did some finishing work on the house. You know you're a homeowner when the only time you left the house in a weekend was to go to Home Depot...

Home Depot trip
I don't even think this picture does our Home Depot trip justice. Ryan managed to have wood going through the car towards the front seat as well as out the sun roof it was quite comical. Plus we picked up two bags of mulch and some other goodies. That mini sure does take a beating sometimes... (note: I also discovered how much I love Instagram this weekend)

Anyways, Ryan put up some trim on the cabinets as well as in the bathroom.

Before

During

After!

Floor Molding finished
And he started the crown molding in the bathroom which turns out is not that easy but totally worth it...

Before

After! Molding makes such a difference...
And he (almost) finished putting up the wood on the cabinets.

Swoon!
The kitchen is really coming together. I can't wait until we have a back splash up and some cabinet lights! We've come a longgggggg way :)

While Ryan was hard at work on the kitchen, I was wedding crafting. Since I can't ruin all the fun, I'll just show you one of the projects I'm the most proud of, our chair signs! I followed a tutorial and I was mighty impressed by the finished product.

I printed out and traced the words that I was going to burn in to the wood.

I transferred the words on to the wood.

Finished Product!
It was actually super fun and makes me want to do more projects like that :) It took me awhile to get the hang of wood burning but once I did, it really wasn't that difficult (minus the smoke getting in your eyes/house).

To leave you with one last picture, my project for the week ()my hands are already bleeding...).
And the wedding crafting continues....

How the Cool Kids Take Dance Lessons...

... and build kitchens. #NBD.

Don't worry we eventually put it on our TV and moved the furniture.

Oh, YouTube, what did we ever do before you? Of course unlike the kitchen, the jury is still out on the result of said dance lessons....
